1. Introduction

Hush Stories ("Hush Stories," "we," "our," or "us") provides a mobile app, website, support pages, and related backend services designed to help people wind down through sleep stories, calming audio, and bedtime listening features.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and what choices you have.

This policy applies to:

  • the Hush Stories mobile app
  • the Hush Stories website and support pages
  • related backend services used to operate the app
  • notification and support flows connected to the product

3. Information we collect

We collect the information reasonably needed to operate, secure, and improve Hush Stories.

A. Anonymous account and profile information

Hush Stories currently uses a lightweight account/session model for many app flows. We may store:

  • a user ID or anonymous account identifier
  • whether the account is anonymous or linked to a later sign-in method, if one is added
  • email address, if an email is ever associated with the account
  • locale and time zone information when you submit onboarding or preference data

B. Preferences and saved app state

We may store information you provide or create in the app, such as:

  • onboarding preferences, including goals, stress frequency, sleep duration band, age band, and preferred narrator selections
  • favorites or saved stories
  • listening-session information, including track IDs, playback progress, completion state, and exit reasons
  • app preferences or account-state data needed to deliver core features

C. Notification and device-messaging data

If you enable notifications, we may store:

  • your push-token registration data (for example Expo push tokens)
  • device platform information such as iOS or Android
  • last-seen timestamps for notification registration

We use this information to route notifications and reminder-related messages to your device.

D. Usage and event data

We may collect usage information such as:

  • which stories or tracks are opened, started, resumed, or skipped
  • interaction with features such as favorites, playback, onboarding, and notifications
  • event timestamps and related product-usage metadata

E. Technical and diagnostic information

When you use Hush Stories, our systems may receive technical information such as:

  • IP-address-associated request activity
  • request timestamps and basic server logs
  • device platform and app version information
  • coarse error and diagnostic details needed to troubleshoot issues

F. On-device storage and cached data

The app may also store limited data locally on your device, such as:

  • cached home/catalog data for faster loading or fallback behavior
  • cached preference responses
  • queued event data waiting to be sent to our backend

G. Communications

If you contact us, we may keep:

  • your email address
  • the contents of your message
  • attachments or troubleshooting details you choose to send us

4. How we use information

We use collected information to:

  • operate Hush Stories and deliver its core features
  • create and maintain anonymous or linked account state
  • save preferences, favorites, and listening progress
  • register devices for notifications you choose to enable
  • troubleshoot bugs, outages, abuse, and support requests
  • understand product usage and improve stability, quality, and user experience
  • protect the service and comply with legal obligations

5. Legal bases / reasons for processing

Depending on where you live, we may process information because:

  • it is necessary to provide the service you request
  • it is necessary for our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the service
  • you gave us permission (for example, device notification permission)
  • we are required to do so by law

6. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information only with service providers and infrastructure partners that help us operate Hush Stories, such as providers for:

  • app/backend hosting and networking
  • database and file storage
  • authentication and account/session management
  • notification delivery
  • product infrastructure and developer operations

Those providers may include services such as Supabase, Expo, Google Cloud, Firebase, Apple, or Google, depending on the feature being used.

We may also disclose information:

  • if required by law or legal process
  • to protect users, the service, or our rights
  • in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, restructuring, or asset sale

Hush Stories does not currently use the app as a third-party advertising product, and we do not currently sell user data to advertisers.

7. Notifications

If you enable reminders or other notifications:

  • we store the routing token needed to send messages to your device
  • delivery depends on third-party notification infrastructure and device behavior
  • you can usually disable notifications in your device settings
  • if notifications are disabled, some reminder-related functionality may not work

8. Anonymous accounts and account recovery

Many current Hush Stories flows use an anonymous account/session model by default.

That means some data may be associated with an app-created identifier instead of your name or email address. If you contact support about an anonymous account, we may need enough information to identify the relevant account or device context before we can help with a request.

9. Data retention

We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • provide the service
  • maintain security and reliability
  • support debugging and abuse prevention
  • comply with legal obligations
  • resolve disputes or enforce agreements

Different categories of data may have different retention periods. For example, device tokens, support emails, server logs, analytics events, and listening-session data may not all be kept for the same length of time.

10. Your choices and rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection regarding your personal information.

Because Hush Stories currently uses anonymous accounts in many flows, we may need to verify that you control the relevant account, device context, or email address before fulfilling certain requests.

11. Children

Hush Stories is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe a child provided information improperly, contact us and we will review the request.

12. International transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, depending on where our providers operate. Where required, we take reasonable steps to protect information during those transfers.

13. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Third-party services and links

Hush Stories may rely on or link to third-party services such as Apple, Google, Expo, Firebase, Supabase, or other infrastructure providers. Their services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may update the date above and provide additional notice where appropriate.
